This famous katana is one of the 21 blades of O Wazamono grade. It was the katana of Ryuma, who used it until his death. This sword has an oiled black finish. Additionally, the bright red hamon painted on the blade makes it more unique in appearance than Zoro's two other blades.

Zoro is somewhat able to speak with his sword held in his mouth; Eiichiro Oda has stated that it is his heart that allows him to do so. Though he is not a samurai, he maintains his own code of honor. His goal is to become the world's greatest swordsman, by defeating the current most powerful swordsman, Mihawk.
