He was one of the Three Admirals of the Navy, before being promoted to Admiral following the events of Marineford. He is one of the main antagonists of the series.
He is one of the major antagonists of the manga and is one of Luffy 's mortal enemies, being responsible for the death of Ace .
Akainu is a firm believer in Absolute Justice and is merciless in its enforcement. He has a severe, grim, inexpressive temperament and is the most merciless of the three Admirals.
Despite this, Akainu seems to be capable of restraint at times, having chosen for example to spare the life of Jewelry Bonney after she was abandoned by the Blackbeard Crew or even leaving Aokiji alive despite their deadly duel.
