The episode then turns to Guts ' past,showing him as a young boy raised by a group of mercenaries.He is trained in combat from a young age and quickly becomes a skilled warrior. However,he is also witness to the brutality of war and the dark side of humanity.
The episode ends with Guts marked by a seal that attracts evil spirits.This mark is a curse that will haunt him for the rest of his life.
