Her parents died when she was young, and to survive, she tried to sell hats in the street with Komachiyo , without much success. That's when she meets Tenguyama Hitetsu , who takes her in. Four years earlier, when the village was facing famine, she met Ace who had washed ashore in Kuri with his crew. She befriended him and made him promise to join her crew. The pirate promised to return the day the young girl becomes a powerful Kunoichi.
Tama ate the Kibi Kibi no Mi , a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows her to create food with her body in the form of Dangos, millet dumplings. This food is capable of taming beasts.
