⛩ Godzilla is an American film directed by Roland Emmerich and released in 1998. It is the 23rd film featuring the kaijū Godzilla from the Japanese studio Tōhō. It is the first American film with Godzilla.
Upon its release, the film received generally negative press reviews. However, it earned 379 million dollars at the worldwide box office, with an estimated production budget of 130 to 150 million and marketing costs of 80 million. Despite profits, it is considered a commercial failure. This therefore puts the planned sequels in question. Instead, the film received a television "sequel" with the animated series Godzilla, the Series (Godzilla The Series), broadcast between 1998 and 2000.
