Once a simple human, he studied Japanese Literature in his first year at Kamii University, living a relatively normal life.
However, things change rapidly after doctor Akihiro Kano transplants the RC Cells of Lize Kamishiro to him, transforming him into an Artificial Ghoul.
He then joins Anteiku, a café known to Ghouls as a gathering place, as a part-time server. Thanks to the members of Anteiku, Ken tries to learn how to live as Ghouls do and eventually adopts the nickname Eye Patch.
