⛩ Tobi is a member of the Akatsuki, of which he is the original leader. Passing himself off as Madara Uchiha, he manipulated Pain (Nagato) in the shadows, whom everyone believed to be the "leader" of the organization. He is the main antagonist of the second part of the series.

Twelve years before the start of the series, Tobi launched an attack on Konoha with the Kyûbi as his asset. At the time of Kushina Uzumaki's delivery, he killed an Anbu squad tasked with protecting the delivery. Capturing the newborn, Naruto Uzumaki, he forced his father Minato Namikaze to teleport with his child to a refuge outside the village.

Meanwhile, Tobi pulled Kyûbi out of Kushina and controlled it using his Sharingan. Kyûbi began its carnage in Konoha while Minato was attacked by Tobi, and a fight broke out between the two characters. As Tobi was on the verge of seizing Minato, the latter teleported above him and wounded him with a Rasengan in the back, and Minato managed to free Kyûbi from his control before Tobi left saying that one day he would recover Kyûbi, forcing Minato to consider him a terrible threat.
