Orphaned by the attack, Naruto was avoided by the villagers, who, out of fear and anger, considered him Kyûbi himself. Although the Third Hokage forbade speaking of anything concerning Kyûbi, the children – following the example of their parents – inherited the same animosity towards Naruto .
In his desire to be recognized, Naruto swore that one day he would become the greatest Hokage the village had ever seen.
