⛩ Gaï Maito is one of the most formidable jonin in the village of Konoha and the great rival of Kakashi the copy ninja. He is a specialist in taijutsu, a discipline he has elevated to an art form.

The love that Gaï has for taijutsu comes from his father Daï , who was also a master of hand-to-hand combat. Gaï trained relentlessly to impress his father, although the latter was only a genin . Gaï was frustrated by the fact that his father was the laughing stock of the ninjas of Konoha who did not respect his weak combat abilities.

Fearing that his son would become a good-for-nothing like him, weak in ninjutsu or genjutsu , and that he would remain a genin his whole life, Daï decided to teach him the technique of opening the Eight Heavenly Gates , on the sole condition that he only use it to protect what is most dear to him.

The values instilled by his father in Gaï forged his Nindo which he succeeded in transmitting to his students, particularly Lee to whom he transmitted the opening of the Eight Heavenly Gates .

Gaï is one of the most powerful ninjas of Konoha whose fame reached even the ears of Itachi who describes him as " very powerful and dangerous " and Madara even granted him the title of " the most powerful user of Taijutsu in history " which says a lot.

During the fight against Madara Uchiha , he decided to open all the gates, including the gate of death and unleash an ultimate technique, Gaï of the Night , the taijutsu technique the most powerful seen in the series, capable of distorting time, space and even reality.
