⛩ Askeladd , whose real name is Lucius Artorius Castus , was a Welsh-Danish Viking who was followed by Thorfinn for a decade. He was a major antagonist of the War Arc, due to Thorfinn 's objectives.
Askeladd claimed that he was a descendant of the legendary warrior Lucius Artorius Castus through his mother. The latter idolized the story of Artorius and gave his name to her son. The nickname " Askeladd " comes from " Ashen Lad ", because he was constantly covered in ashes from various jobs in his childhood.
He was hired by Floki to assassinate Thors and was then followed for more than a decade by a vengeful Thorfinn , who wished to kill his father's assassin honorably.
After most of his group was annihilated by Thorkell , Askeladd pledged his service to Canute to achieve his secret goal of protecting Wales from Viking invasions.
